The thinking behind SRIS
Ask what makes a good production system, not just a good producer.
SRIS comes from Liam Wickham's work with studios and from the Studio Risk Foundations course. This is the thinking behind it.
Why the same fires keep starting.
Recurring production pressure is often a system pattern, not a people problem. Work arrives by routes nobody can see. Load and dependencies stay unclear. Teams overcommit. Problems surface late. Downstream teams absorb the surprise. Improvement work is put off. Firefighting eats the next cycle.
Liam's short version: delivery consumes the capacity needed to improve delivery. The place to break it: make demand visible before anyone commits.
Good producers need good systems.
- "Help today; leave capability behind."
- "Hire expertise, not a human shock absorber."
- "Use the minimum structure that solves a real problem."
Built on Studio Risk Foundations, checked line by line.
We compared SRIS with the Studio Risk Foundations course item by item. Where they differed, we followed the course. In SRIS you will find the course's:
- risk loop and three levels, each with its own rhythm;
- 1–5 likelihood and impact scales and 5×5 matrix;
- difference between controls and actions, and between current and target risk;
- "If or when … then …" statements;
- decision record, review agendas, leadership roll-up, escalation note and communication map.
Help us shape SRIS.
We are looking for a small, varied group of studios. You get a private SRIS site, Liam's support and a real say in what we build next. We ask for honest use and honest feedback.
